Why the AI cannot break your books
The safety is in the database, not in a prompt. Every journal entry must balance to the cent or the write is rejected. Postings are immutable; there is no edit and no delete, only linked reversals. Balances are always computed from postings, so reports can never drift from the ledger. Replayed requests return the original entry instead of posting twice.
That is why an AI can work unsupervised here and not in a spreadsheet. A spreadsheet accepts any mistake silently. This ledger refuses them.

Common questions
Is it safe to let an AI touch my books?
Yes, because the ledger protects itself. Every entry must balance; the database rejects anything else. Nothing is ever edited or deleted; corrections are posted as linked reversals. Every AI action is logged, and you can reverse any of them with one click.
Do I need to know accounting?
No. You talk to your AI in plain language: "categorize last month" or "how much did I spend on software?". The double-entry machinery runs underneath. Your accountant will recognize everything at tax time.
Which AI assistants work with LedgerMCP?
