One command adds LedgerMCP to Claude Code. Sign in with a 6-digit code and the full 72 tools are in your terminal: import statements, categorize, reconcile, and run reports. Free to start.
Type /mcp, pick ledgermcp, and sign in. Your browser opens a LedgerMCP page: enter your email, type the 6-digit code, and press Approve. New accounts are created during sign-in.

03 Ask · import_transactions
Drop a statement in the folder and ask: “import june-statement-2026.pdf and categorize it”. Claude Code reads the file, imports the rows, categorizes them, and flags what it is unsure about. You review the flagged rows in the web app.

Create a key in Settings, under Your AI, and paste this config with your key. One key covers every book in your account.

Same books everywhereThe books live on LedgerMCP. Open the web app, connect Claude or ChatGPT too, or switch clients; nothing depends on Claude Code staying open.
Yes, once it has a ledger to operate. Connected to LedgerMCP over MCP, Claude Code imports statements, posts balanced journal entries, splits transactions, matches transfers, reconciles accounts, and runs reports.
How do I connect Claude Code to LedgerMCP?
Run claude mcp add --transport http --scope user ledgermcp https://ledgermcp.com/mcp, then type /mcp and sign in with the 6-digit email code. Or create an API key in Settings, under Your AI, and add the mcp.json config on this page.
Does it work in the desktop app and on claude.ai/code?
In the terminal and the Claude desktop app, yes: both read the same config. On claude.ai/code, add LedgerMCP as a claude.ai connector instead; it signs in the same way.
Is this different from connecting Claude on claude.ai?
Only the first step. On claude.ai you find LedgerMCP in the connector directory; in Claude Code you add the URL with one command. The sign-in and the tools are the same.
Can I give Claude Code read-only access?
Yes. A read-only key in the same config lets it report on the books without being able to write to them.
Can Claude Code break my books?
No. Entries must balance or the database rejects them, and every write lands in the audit log with a one-click reverse.
Is my financial data used to train Claude?
LedgerMCP never trains on your books. Bring your own AI, or use the optional built-in assistant. What Claude does with conversation data is governed by your Anthropic plan and settings. Bank credentials never pass through either company: Plaid handles bank connections, and tokens are encrypted at rest.
What does it cost?
Free. Unlimited books, CSV import, reports, and the full tool surface cost nothing. Live bank feeds start at $9/mo, pooled across all your books, and the Growth and Scale plans include a built-in AI assistant.
Keep the books from the terminal.
Add the server, sign in, and hand it one statement.
