Free AI personal finance tracker

Let your AI track your money

Connect Claude or ChatGPT and stop wondering where your money went. Your AI imports your statements, sorts your spending, catches the subscriptions you forgot, and answers “can I afford this?” in plain language. Free, and your books stay yours.

Your money, any chat

Where did my money go last month?
You spent $3,180. The biggest chunks were rent ($1,450), groceries ($520), and dining out ($410). Two subscriptions renewed at a higher price: I flagged them. Want the full breakdown?

How it works

No new app to learn. You use the AI you already talk to; it does the tracking.

  1. 1

Connect the AI you already use

Add LedgerMCP to Claude or ChatGPT as a connector, then say “set up a personal book.” No spreadsheet, no app to learn.

  2. 2

    Hand it your statements

Export a CSV from your bank or card, or connect the account, and your agent imports and sorts every transaction into plain categories.

  3. 3

    Just ask

Where did my money go? Can I afford this? What am I still subscribed to? Ask in plain language and get a straight answer from your real numbers.

Questions it answers on the spot

The point isn’t a dashboard you have to read. It’s a straight answer when you ask.

Where did my money go last month?

Your agent categorizes every charge and adds it up, so “I don’t know where it all went” becomes a ranked list: rent, groceries, that one weekend, the subscriptions you forgot.

What am I still paying for?

Recurring-charge detection surfaces every subscription and flags price hikes and double charges, so you can cancel what you stopped using.

Can I afford this?

Ask before you buy. Your agent reads your actual income and spending and gives you a safe-to-spend answer, not a vibe.

Am I saving anything?

Money in minus money out, month over month. See whether you’re actually getting ahead, and by how much.

A real ledger, not a guess

Most money apps show you charts. LedgerMCP keeps real double-entry books underneath, so the numbers actually reconcile: every dollar in and out is accounted for, nothing is quietly double-counted, and your agent can’t corrupt the math because the database won’t let it.

That’s the difference between “roughly” and “exactly.” When your agent says you have $840 of room this month, it’s reading a ledger that ties, not a vibe from a spreadsheet.

Every dollar accounted for

Real double-entry books mean nothing goes missing and nothing double-counts.

Subscriptions caught

Recurring-charge detection flags price hikes, double charges, and forgotten renewals.

Private by design

No AI of our own, no training on your data, bank tokens encrypted at rest.

Yours to keep

Export everything to CSV any time. Skip bank feeds and use statements if you prefer.

Common questions

What is LedgerMCP personal finance mode?

It is a free personal finance tracker your AI runs for you. Connect Claude or ChatGPT to LedgerMCP, set up a personal book, and your agent imports your statements, categorizes your spending, tracks subscriptions, and answers questions about your money in plain language. Underneath is a real ledger, so the numbers actually add up.

Is it free?

Yes. Tracking your personal finances is free: unlimited categories, all reports, and full AI access, with no card. Live bank feeds are the one paid feature, from $9 per month, and you can skip them entirely by importing CSV statements.

Do I need to know anything about budgeting or accounting?

No. You talk to your AI in plain language: “where did my money go last month?” or “what am I still subscribed to?” The agent does the categorizing and math; you just ask. A clean web app is there if you ever want to look yourself.

Is my financial data private?

Yes. LedgerMCP ships no AI of its own and never trains on your data. Bank connections go through Plaid and tokens are encrypted at rest; you can also skip bank feeds and use CSVs. Your books are yours and export any time.

Can it track my subscriptions?

Yes. LedgerMCP detects recurring charges and flags price increases, double charges, and payments you may have forgotten, so you can cancel what you no longer use.

Can I keep personal and business books in one place?

Yes. Under one free account you can keep a personal book alongside any business books, each with its own categories and reports. One key lets your agent work across all of them.

Which AI assistants work?

Any MCP client: Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or your own agent. You paste one snippet and the agent can keep your personal book.
